Description

A super compressor is essential in any watch collector’s repertoire. Its iconic design with two cross-hatched crowns and innovative rotating inner bezel makes it a 1960s hallmark. This design was used by multiple major brands, including JLC, Universal Geneve, and Longines. The watch's fascinating technology works by utilizing the water pressure from the outside to compress the gaskets inside. Meaning that the deeper the watch goes, the tighter the case gets. This fascinating technology is long dead and is seldom seen, making this watch a rare opportunity.
Wittnauer is well known for bringing the Longines watches to the North American market. But even cooler is the fact that the brand participated in the famous race to be the official watch to be taken to the moon. Although the watch was not chosen for that task, Wittnauer instruments were part of many achievements in aviation history.
This reference 8007 from the 60s is fitted with a well-proportioned 36mm case, has both its original crowns and demonstrates sharp lugs with honest wear marks. Feeling the case makes you appreciate how sharp it is and how faithfully it has retained its geometry. The dial is in lovely condition, with all its lume plots intact – including the one in the inner bezel. The tritium has turned into a lovely creme color with a sandy hue. The hands are in good condition, nonetheless, the minute hand has seen some lume falling off.
